Christopher R. Hill

Title: Assistant secretary of state for East Asian and Pacific Affairs and chief U.S. negotiator to the six-party talks on North Korea's nuclear programs.

Born : 1952, Paris.

Education : BA in economics, Bowdoin College; MA, Naval War College.

Career : Ambassador to South Korea (2004 to 2005); ambassador to Poland (2000 to 2004); ambassador to Macedonia (1996 to 1999); special envoy to Kosovo (1998 to 1999); member of negotiating team at the Dayton Peace Accords (1995); and various jobs at State Department and White House, including overseas postings in Belgrade and Tirana.

Family : Married, three children.

Hobbies : Running, tennis, the Red Sox.

Recent books read : "1776" by David McCullough and "Moscow 1812" by Adam Zamoyski.
