The Washington Post Travel section has won four awards in the 21st Annual Lowell Thomas Travel Journalism Competition.

Staff writer Steve Hendrix won a silver prize for his piece "The Great Indoors," about national park lodges. Staff writer Cindy Loose won a bronze for her story on a Holocaust tour of Eastern Europe, "This Silent Place." A service piece on Orlando lodgings, produced by the Travel staff under the direction of Deputy Editor John Deiner, won a silver prize. And freelancer Matt Bradley won a gold award for his story describing his experience as an American expatriate in Vietnam, "Innocence Abroad: Another Beaming American."

The contest is sponsored by the Society of American Travel Writers and judged by the faculty at the University of Missouri School of Journalism.
