Best Start: Before yesterday, the Redskins had not scored on an opening drive this season. Three times they committed a turnover, once missed a field goal and once punted. That streak ended against the 49ers when Mark Brunell found H-back Mike Sellers wide open in the end zone for a two-yard reception that gave Washington a 7-0 lead with nearly 11 minutes still remaining in the first quarter.

Worst Tease: The loudest cheer of the day at FedEx Field came when three-time Pro Bowl linebacker LaVar Arrington made his first appearance on defense in three games. The stadium erupted as he jogged onto the field on second down and eight with 10 minutes 16 seconds left in the first quarter. Leading the cheers were the thousands donning Arrington jerseys who were beginning to feel out of style. But Arrington was out again a play later, used primarily in second-and-long situations. Fortunately for the fans, the 49ers' paltry offense gave him plenty of opportunities to return.

Best Streak: When Santana Moss raced d own the right sideline and hauled in a beautifully placed 43-yard pass from Brunell on the Redskins' opening drive, it marked his sixth consecutive game with a catch of at least 30 yards. Moss added a 32-yard touchdown reception to that list late in the first half when he ran past cornerback Shawntae Spencer and made a wide-open grab.

Best Streak Breaker: Washington had gone four games without forcing a turnover but came up with two against San Francisco. In the second quarter, linebacker Marcus Washington chased down quarterback Alex Smith for a sack, chopping the ball out of his hands at the 49ers 19-yard line before he hit the turf. Then in the third quarter, safety Sean Taylor picked off an underthrown Smith pass and returned it 32 yards to the San Francisco 3-yard line.

Worst Celebration: The crowd at FedEx Field couldn't have been happier to see Clinton Portis score on a five-yard run in the opening quarter for his first rushing touchdown of the season. But after making his way through the back of the end zone and down the width of the field, he stopped in front of the fans and did a little jig that gave new meaning to the phrase "So You Think You Can Dance."

Best Celebration: Portis redeemed himself in the second quarter, when his second touchdown of the game was followed by two fan-pleasing -- if not well-executed -- cartwheels. Fox sideline reporter Tony Siragusa gave Portis a 6.4 for his efforts.

Best Offense: The Redskins put up 21 points in the second quarter, matching their highest output for a complete game this season.

Worst Team: San Francisco is in contention for worst team in the league. The 49ers' offense managed 194 yards, 72 of which came on one long run by Frank Gore. And the 52 points yielded by the defense was the most allowed since San Francisco lost, 59-14, to Dallas in 1980.
