Virginia has an unusual election cycle, holding its major state contests in the year after each presidential election.
On the Ballot
On Tuesday, Virginians will pick their next governor, lieutenant governor and attorney general. They'll also choose the 100 members of the House of Delegates, one of two chambers in the General Assembly. Some local offices and bond issues will also appear on ballots in Northern Virginia.
Poll Hours
6 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Voting in Virginia
Voters must have registered by Oct. 11. At the polls, they must provide identification or sign an Affirmation of Identification. The types of acceptable identification include a valid Virginia driver's license; a military ID; any ID issued by a federal, state or local government; an employer-issued photo ID card; or a Social Security card.
Information Online
The Washington Post published voters guides in Thursday's Extras. They also can be found online, along with poll results, online discussions about the governor's campaign, the "Race to Richmond" blog and an issues primer at http:/
