Of Note: The top-seeded Terrapins, 15-3-1 and ranked No. 1 in the country, advanced with a 2-1 victory over Wake Forest in Wednesday's quarterfinals. Duke ousted Virginia Tech, 2-0, while North Carolina upset North Carolina State, 1-0, and defending ACC champion Virginia, the second seed, was smashed by seventh-seeded Clemson, 4-1. The Cavaliers (12-4-2) and Hokies (10-5-4) are expected to receive NCAA at-large berths when the pairings are announced Monday.

Of Note: The top-seeded Eagles had a 1-7-1 record in nonconference games, but because they went 5-2-0 in the Patriot League, they are on the brink of a second consecutive NCAA tournament berth and their fourth in the last five years. AU defeated each of the other semifinalists during the regular season. Eagles MF Philip Purdy (Osbourn Park) was named the league's rookie of the year.

NCAA DIVISION I WOMEN

Where: Klockner Stadium, Charlottesville.

Of Note: The Cavaliers (15-5-1) earned a No. 2 seed in the 64-team event after finishing second to North Carolina in the ACC tournament. They are making their 12th consecutive NCAA appearance. The Flames (12-6-2) won the Big South tournament. The teams met in the 2001 NCAAs, with the Cavaliers winning, 3-0. Virginia has beaten Wake Forest twice and lost to Tennessee this year.
