Player of the Year

JOE BUTTGEREIT Forest Park {vbar} Freshman

In his first varsity tournament, the William Marshall Quantico Invitational, shot a 75 and 73 in consecutive days to finish sixth at 1-over par, best among Prince William golfers.

Cardinal District runner-up (2-over par 74) finished third at Northwestern Region match (3-over 75) and 24th at states.

Coach of the Year

BABETTE OVERMAN {vbar} Forest Park

Second-year coach led Forest Park to an undefeated regular season and the Cardinal District regular season title.

Bruins won their third straight district championship, outdistancing runner-up Potomac by 45 strokes. They finished third at region meet.

First Team

Daniel Jones, Potomac, Jr. -- Shot a 77 at Northwestern Region championships to advance to the Virginia AAA tournament. Finished fifth at Cardinal District match.

Mike Matta, Potomac, Sr. -- Helped Panthers qualify for first region tournament in 20 years by finishing fourth (80) at Cardinal championships. Shot 79-77 at Quantico tournament. Will play baseball at Mount St. Mary's.

Jerry Roma, Forest Park, Soph. -- Despite windy and rainy conditions, posted a 3-under par 69 to win the Cardinal District crown. Shot a second-day 75 at Quantico.

Stephen Spaulding, Battlefield, Sr. -- Shot 79 and won Cedar Run individual title in a playoff to lead Bobcats to the district team title in school's second year of existence.

Silas VanSky, Osbourn Park, Jr. -- Tied for first at Cedar Run District match with a 79, but lost to Battlefield's Spaulding in playoff. Shot 77 on second day of Quantico tournament.
