The move to the Cedar Run District for the Culpeper boys was intended to be a step up in competition for the Blue Devils. Five games into district play, it's the competition that has had to step up to the Blue Devils.

Culpeper is 4-1 in the district and 10-3 overall after being edged by Osbourn Park on Friday night, 71-65. Considering it was the team's eighth straight road game, Culpeper Coach Billy Thornhill was as pleased as he could be with a loss. Osbourn Park remained undefeated in the Cedar Run at 4-0.

"We had three [starters] foul out and were still there at the end -- to me that's a positive," said Thornhill, in his 26th year coaching the team.

Five Culpeper players are averaging double figures in points, led by Brandon McCray and Patrick Thornhill, the coach's son. As a team, Culpeper is averaging almost 75 points per game.

The Blue Devils' biggest test may come tonight, when they host No. 2 Potomac (Va.).
