LAST SEASON: 11-2, with a 35-24 win over Louisville in the Gator Bowl.

TOP PLAYERS LOST: QB Marcus Vick, DE Darryl Tapp, RB Cedric Humes, LB James Anderson, CB Jimmy Williams

NEEDS ADDRESSED: The Hokies went beyond the borders, with out-of-state players making up the majority of this class. Tech appears to have landed some line help on either side of the ball, particularly defensively.

BEST IN CLASS: Aaron Brown, from Princeton High in Cincinnati, was rated the seventh best offensive tackle in the country by Rivals.com, and he chose the Hokies over scholarship offers from Notre Dame, Ohio State, Auburn and Purdue. Brown, 6-feet-6 and 299 pounds, enrolled at Tech last month and could be in the mix to replace starting left tackle Jimmy Martin this coming season.

SLEEPER: Fullback Devven Sutton, from Elizabeth City, N.C., was the last player to orally commit to play for the Hokies; his only other scholarship offers were from East Carolina and Division I-AA Hampton. Sutton is a dominating blocker with a large frame (6 feet, 235 pounds) who runs well.

THOSE WHO GOT AWAY: The Hokies targeted five wide receivers from Virginia and didn't sign any of them: Percy Harvin (signed with Florida), Damon McDaniel (Florida State), Chris Bell (Penn State), Vidal Hazelton (Southern California) and Brandon Caleb (Oklahoma). The Hokies signed only six players from Virginia, the fewest in Coach Frank Beamer's 25 years as coach.

COACH FRANK BEAMER: "I think this is a talented class and a very good character class. I really like the makeup of a lot of the guys in this class. We're disappointed, as always, in some of the guys we didn't get, but I'm very excited about the ones we did get. It's just one of those years where more guys than usual left the state, but we'll continue to work hard to get the best players in the state of Virginia."
