Where to Get Fired Up

For a list of NRA-certified instructors and classes in your area, call the NRA Training Information Request Line at 703-267-1430 or go to http://www.nrahq.org/education/training/find.asp . All of these locations either have specific programs for women or say they can arrange them upon request. And most have other classes and can design ones on a case-by-case basis:

BBSG ACADEMY. Classes range from $80-$150 a person depending on group size and skills taught. Beginner classes typically include four hours of classroom training and one hour of range time. BLUE RIDGE ARSENAL . Beginner classes are offered every other Wednesday at 6 p.m. for four hours for $125 a person. Private introductory lessons are $65 an hour (minimum of three hours). 14725K Flint Lee Rd., Chantilly. 703-818-0230. http://www.blueridgearsenal.com/ .

GILBERT INDOOR RANGE. Billed as the "largest indoor range on the East Coast," it offers a two-day basic pistol class for $165 a person. 14690 Rothgeb Dr., Rockville. 301-315-0300. http://www.gilbertindoorrange.com/ .

NRA RANGE. The First Steps pistol class is $100 a person and includes 4 1/2 hours of classroom instruction and one hour on the shooting range. 11250 Waples Mill Rd., Fairfax. 703-267-1400. http://www.nrahq.org/ .

PIEDMONT NRA INSTRUCTORS. The basic pistol class includes at least 10 hours of classroom and range time for $75 a person. Classroom training is held at the Courtyard by Marriott in Chantilly (3935 Centerview Dr.); range training takes place at Blue Ridge Arsenal. 703-652-1692. http://www.piedmontnrainstructors.org/ .

SELECT-FIRE. An NRA basic pistol course is $110 a person, and the two-day, 10-hour class includes four hours of range time. 115C Holsum Way, Glen Burnie 410-768-3473. http://www.selectfire.com/ .

SHOOTERS PARADISE. The four-hour basic pistol class meets most Saturdays at 1 p.m. and costs $75 a person. 13979 Jefferson Davis Hwy., Woodbridge. 703-491-4867. http://www.shootersparadise.com/ .

WOMEN ON TARGET. Sponsors a number of classes specifically for women. An instructional shooting clinic in Centreville is May 13 and costs $45 a person. Locations vary. Contact program coordinator Beth Hellmann at 703-267-1398. http://www.nrahq.org/women/wot.asp .
