Disney's New Ice Princess
Now that wholesome figure skater Michelle Kwan is back from disappointment in Italy, where will she go? To Disney, natch.
The squeaky-clean 25-year-old has signed a multi-year agreement to be a spokeswoman for the Walt Disney Co., the company announced Thursday. Kwan will be featured in ads promoting the company and may make guest appearances on "original programming" and appear at live Disney events. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The five-time world champion withdrew from the Olympics last weekend because of a strained groin muscle and turned down an offer from NBC to work as a broadcaster for the Games, saying she didn't want to be a distraction for the U.S. figure skating team.
But this ice queen isn't ready to hang up her skates -- at least, not right now. "What's she's going to be doing hasn't been decided," said Kwan's agent, Shep Goldberg . "Usually in the summer she makes a decision about competing for the next year. She's been doing that since 2002. I suspect this year will be the same."
Head Games in Turin
Tom Cruise is popping up all over the place. On magazine covers, at a funeral in Australia and an ice rink in Turin, Italy. Or so it might seem.
The 43-year-old headline-grabber is at the Olympic Games in spirit, or in spray paint. Cruise's steely mug from the 2003 action flick "The Last Samurai" is emblazoned on the helmet of Italian goalie Gunther Hell and stares down competitors as they make their way to the goal. Scary.
Cruise spokesman Paul Bloch said his couch-jumping client isn't aware of this Olympic shout-out, but noted the star is a "big fan of sports." Alas, the Italian hockey team hasn't fared so well in the Games thus far (its record was 0-2, as of yesterday afternoon). Maybe Hell would have had better luck with a Cruise painting a la "Top Gun."
Bond's New Belle
Sing it now! Dum dada dum dumdum, dum dum dada, dum dumdum! Weeks into production of the latest James Bond installment, a Bond Girl has been chosen.
The name's Green, Eva Green . The French actress will play Vesper Lynd in "Casino Royale" opposite Daniel Craig , the movie's producers told the Associated Press Thursday.
The 25-year-old is "one of France's most accomplished young actresses," according to producers, and starred in last year's forgettable adventure movie "Kingdom of Heaven" opposite Orlando Bloom .
The budding starlet joins the coveted ranks of former Bond Girls such as Ursula Andress , Maud Adams and Halle Berry .
