The Wizards are considering adding a player to the active roster after the trade deadline passes tomorrow at 3 p.m.

With guard Jarvis Hayes likely out for the season with a knee injury and second-year center Peter John Ramos assigned to the team's Development League affiliate, Roanoke, the Wizards have been carrying 12 players.

League rules allow teams to carry as many as 15 players on the active roster, including players assigned to the D-League.

One possibility is signing free agent guard Billy Thomas, who went to training camp with the Wizards in the fall, played during the preseason and was released along with forward Hiram Fuller on Oct. 27.

Thomas, a shooting guard who played briefly with New Jersey last season, has been playing with the Sioux Falls Sky Force of the CBA, where he is averaging 16.5 points on 45.6 percent shooting.

"We have that roster spot open right now but the general thought is to keep it open until the trading deadline has passed just to give us as much flexibility as we can," Wizards Coach Eddie Jordan said.

If President of Basketball Operations Ernie Grunfeld is considering any moves before tomorrow's deadline, he is keeping them under wraps. The rumor mill has been silent regarding possible Wizards moves, and Grunfeld has consistently maintained that while he is always looking for ways to improve the team, he won't publicly comment on trade rumors. The deadline came and went without any Wizards moves last season.
