A Virginia House Finance subcommittee split 5 to 5 on a bill approved by the state Senate that would have increased the sales tax in Northern Virginia communities served by Metro transit by one-quarter of a cent. That kills the bill, SB 267. The money would have helped the Washington region provide a steady, reliable source of funding for the rail and bus system.
Voting Against the Bill: Dels. Harry J. Parrish (R-Manassas), L. Scott Lingamfelter (R-Prince William), William R. Janis (R-Goochland), R. Lee Ware Jr. (R-Powhatan) and Robert D. "Bobby" Orrock Sr. (R-Caroline).
Voting for the Bill: Dels. C. Charles Caputo (D-Fairfax), Stephen C. Shannon (D-Fairfax), Timothy D. Hugo (R-Fairfax), Robert D. Hull (D-Fairfax) and Joseph P. Johnson Jr. (D-Washington).
