Anthony Dorrzapf, a Fairfax County animal control officer, received the 2005 Domestic Animal Rescue Award from the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments for saving a dog that had fallen 30 feet and was stranded on a cliff in Great Falls Park.

During the awards ceremony, officials also recognized the work of hundreds in the D.C. area who helped pets and pet owners after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita devastated the Gulf Coast.
