Lichtman Immersed in His Television Message
U.S. Senate candidate Allan J. Lichtman has plunged into the Democratic primary contest, literally jumping into the C&O Canal in a business suit for the campaign's first television commercial, which began airing Friday in the Washington suburbs and Baltimore.
Lichtman, an American University professor who is one of seven Democratic candidates in the race to replace U.S. Sen. Paul S. Sarbanes (D), said the playful commercial is intended to send a serious message.
"You can send a conventional politician to the Senate, and it'll be like throwing a pebble on a pond: a little bit of ripple and nothing will change," he says in the ad, tossing a stone into the water at Wheaton Regional Park.
Then, just before a cut to the canal jump: "Or, let's make a big splash and together change Washington!"
Nearly 100 "Splash for Change" spots will be broadcast on cable for a week. The ad can been seen online at http:/
