Oakton's Football Stars Shine on Lacrosse Field

Three-time defending state champion Oakton graduated 16 seniors but has back four starters who also are members of the state championship-winning football team: senior A Donald Murphy (Salisbury), senior D Thomas Rupp (Salisbury) and senior GKs Mark Davis and C.J. Murphy , who split time last year.

Oakton senior All-Met running back Keith Payne , a defenseman on last year's lacrosse team, will not play this year in order to prepare for football at Virginia, but another pair of All-Met football players will.

Senior Offensive Player of the Year Evan Royster will headline Westfield's midfield, and Robinson senior Lucas Caparelli is back playing lacrosse after taking a year off to focus on football. . . .

W.T. Woodson and Langley should compete for the AAA Liberty District title.

The Cavaliers' headliner is MF Brandon Butler (Army), while the Saxons feature A Rob MaClay (Vermont). . . .

After graduating 13 Division I players, Landon has reloaded under 36th-year coach Rob Bordley . The Bears include A George Huguely (Virginia) and D Connor Cassidy (Johns Hopkins). Other IAC players to watch include St. Stephen's/St. Agnes MF Matt Wasilewski (Army), St. Albans A Thomas Muldoon (Brown) and Episcopal MF Jeff Lamb (Georgetown). . . .

St. Mary's Ryken is facing injuries to three of its top players: Towson-bound D Joe Wascavage (ruptured spleen), Pfeiffer-bound MF Chad Olsen (broken ankle) and sophomore A Zach Angel (broken hand). All are expected back within in the next few weeks. . . . Danny Phillips will take over as coach of WCAC member Good Counsel, where A Mark Steverson (Delaware) and MFs John Schiavone (Loyola) and Matt Poulous (Army) lead the charge.
