Boys' Athlete of the Year

Jason Driscoll Battlefield, Senior

The cross-country runner of the year followed up with an impressive indoor track campaign, setting personal bests in finishing fourth in the 1,600 (4:23.23) and sixth in the 3,200 (9:37.18) at the Virginia AAA championships.

Won the Northwestern Region title in the 3,200.

Boys' Coach of the Year

Joseph Huddle, Battlefield

The second-year coach, who started the Bobcats' program after a highly successful stint at Central-Woodstock, led the school to its first boys' championship of any kind at the Cedar Run District indoor meet.

Battlefield finished sixth at Northwestern Region meet.

Boys' First Team

Nick Gehlsen, Brentsville, Sr. -- Repeat All-Extra earned all-state honors in two events at the AA meet, taking second in the 1,600 and fourth in the 3,200. He won both events at the Region II meet. Will compete at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Florida.

Chris Harrison, Potomac, Sr. -- Northwestern Region 300-meter champion was a member of the Panthers' 4x200 relay that placed second at the Nike Indoor Nationals. Anchored 4x400 relay that took third in AAA.

Adam Henken, Brentsville, Jr. -- All-state in two events at AA meet, capturing fourth in the 1,600 and second in the 3,200. He was second in Region II in the 1,600 and third in the 3,200.

James Moore, Osbourn, Sr. -- Earned all-state in the high jump by leaping 6 feet 2 inches. Also jumped 6-2 to win the Cedar Run District title and take second in the Northwestern Region.

Michael Nkwanga, Battlefield, Jr. -- The key point-earner in the Bobcats' Cedar Run District title by winning the 500 and taking third in the 300 and fourth in the 55. Finished third in the Northwestern Region in the 500.

Cameron Perry, Forest Park, Sr. -- Repeat All-Extra earned all-state in AAA by taking sixth in the long jump (season-best 22 feet 4 3/4 inches). At the Northwestern Region meet, won the long jump and took fourth in the 300 and sixth in the 55.

Jared Simmons, Stonewall Jackson, Sr. -- Northwestern Region-winning time of 6.42 seconds in the 55 ranked among the top three efforts in the Washington area this winter. Eighth in AAA in the 55.
