Free agent cornerback Jamar Fletcher is scheduled to visit Redskins Park on Monday, according to a source with knowledge of the situation. The Redskins have been in contact with Fletcher sporadically throughout this month, and have been in the market for a third cornerback.

Fletcher, 26, spent the last two seasons in San Diego and is a five-year NFL veteran. He was drafted by Miami in the first round of the 2001 draft (26th overall) from Wisconsin, and was traded to the Chargers in 2004 for wide receiver David Boston . Fletcher played 30 games in two seasons with San Diego but was not a starter, filling the nickel back role the Redskins want to fill, with Shawn Springs and Carlos Rogers slated to start.

The Redskins initiated contact with Fletcher's agent in early March, according to the source, and have remained in contact since. Washington previously invited free agent cornerback Kenny Wright to Redskins Park, but he left without a contract. Ade Jimoh is currently third on the cornerback depth chart, and although he made strides when given more playing time last season he lacks experience in the secondary.

Fletcher has appeared in 71 regular season games, and had one sack and one interception last season. Several teams have expressed interest in him this offseason, and Fletcher has visited Atlanta. The 5-foot-10, 186-pounder was inactive for two weeks last season, while also filling occasional special teams duty. . . .

Newly signed safety Adam Archuleta , one of the biggest fitness fanatics in the NFL, has been conducting his offseason program in Arizona, California and Washington, according to his agent, Gary Wichard .

Players began reporting to Redskins Park for informal workouts this week. Archuleta has followed his rigorous routine in Phoenix and regularly visits a trainer and chiropractor in California. Archuleta will participate when team activities begin later in the offseason, Wichard said.
