The Fairfax County Environmental Quality Advisory Council needs a high school student to serve on the council from July 2006 through June 2007. The student will be involved in making decisions and recommendations that affect the county's environmental policies. High school sophomores or juniors in good standing who are residents of Fairfax County, Clifton, Herndon or Vienna should apply. Home-schooled students are also encouraged to apply. Travelers Aid needs volunteers for the information desk and to serve as guides at Washington Dulles International Airport. Volunteers must have a friendly, helpful manner and enjoy interacting with people from around the world. A commitment of one three- to four-hour shift a week is required. Experience in airline or airport operations or customer service work, or knowledge of a foreign language, is a plus but is not necessary. Training, attire and parking are provided. The Fairfax Area Agency on Aging Volunteer Development Unit needs individuals to help on the volunteer intake desk, assisting with office-related tasks such as mailing information packets, answering general phone calls, filing, copying and assisting with staff projects. The Fairfax Area Agency on Aging's Meals on Wheels program needs volunteers to deliver meals during the week to seniors in Fairfax County. The job involves picking up meals at specified sites between 10:30 a.m. and noon and delivering them by 1 p.m. Drivers are especially needed in Fairfax, Alexandria, Little River Glen, Mount Vernon, Tysons, Chantilly and Manchester Lakes. The annual Culmore neighborhood cleanup needs volunteers to pick up trash and litter from 9 a.m. to noon April 29. At 9 a.m., volunteers will gather for refreshments at the Woodrow Wilson Library, 6101 Knollwood Dr., Falls Church. They will receive green T-shirts that identify the Culmore volunteers before heading out to clean up the neighborhood. The event is being organized by Alternative House, Baileys Beautification Alliance, Fairfax-Falls Church Community Services Board, Culmore Family Resource Center, Dar Al-Hijrah Islamic Center, the office of Supervisor Penelope A.
