During the World Bank Group and International Monetary Fund spring meetings this weekend, the network of surveillance cameras in the District will be activated and traffic in the area will be limited.
Police are also setting up additional temporary cameras this weekend near the Ellipse. Planned road closures to vehicular and pedestrian traffic will begin tonight and continue through 5 p.m. Sunday, April 23.
Beginning at 11 p.m., 18th, 19th and 20th streets will be closed downtown between G Street and Pennsylvania Avenue. Trucks will not be allowed on Pennsylvania Avenue between 17th and 23rd streets, but it will remain open to cars. Pedestrians traffic will also be limited in this area.
Police and federal officials say no permits have been issued for marches or large demonstrations. But smaller events are expected today, tomorrow and Sunday. The first protest is planned for noon today outside the headquarters of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank.
