Size: 39-inch canopy, 9 inches by 1 inch when closed, 5.8 ounces.

Special features: Cover included.

What we liked: Not much.

What we didn't: A lot. The canopy, smallish and flimsy, inverts at a gust of your breath, and you must manually open and close it. The tiny, rubber, rectangular handle is awkward to hold. You definitely get what you pay for.

Grade: D

· Compact Travel Umbrella from Eagle Creek

($20,http://www.eaglecreek.com)

Size: 43-inch canopy, 7.75 inches by 2 inches when closed, 7.5 ounces.

Special features: Hand lanyard has a compass; a zippered carrying case with clip is included.

What we liked: Large canopy. Very lightweight and compact.

What we didn't: Manual open and close. Had extremely difficult time pushing canopy up into open position. The usefulness of the compass is questionable, since it's difficult to read while being pelted by rain because the canopy won't stay up. This is too much money for not much umbrella.

Grade: C
