At least two Gonzaga boys' lacrosse players have been suspended for two games for their roles in an altercation that took place just before halftime of No. 1 Georgetown P rep 's 14-3 victory on Tuesday, Eagles Coach Dave Doughty said.

A skirmish broke out between Georgetown Prep and Gonzaga players as the players were leaving the field before halftime. Georgetown Prep Coach Kevin Giblin said that pushing and shoving occurred between the teams. At the game, a Prep player received a one-minute penalty and a Gonzaga player received a three-minute unsportsmanlike conduct penalty and was ejected. The second half was played without incident, Giblin said.

As per Washington Catholic Athletic Conference rules, the ejected player faced an automatic one-game suspension, Doughty said. He extended that penalty to a second game and suspended another player for leaving the bench. He also said that more suspensions might be forthcoming pending a review of the game film.

Former Hoya Hired

Jericho Christian Academy has hired former Georgetown star Reggie Williams as basketball coach, with the directive to turn the program into a powerhouse that will eventually compete against the nation's elite.

Unlike many small private school programs that have sprouted in recent years, Jericho will take its time, Williams said.

"The goals are to do it the right way," said Williams, who coached High Point the past two seasons. "The fifth-year seniors are not going to be allowed. They've got to be student-athletes."

Jericho's decision to take its little-known program, which went 19-9 last season in the Maryland Independent Schools Athletic League, to the big time was chronicled as part of The Post's ongoing series exploring the changing face of youth basketball nationwide.

Williams said Jericho Headmaster Joel Peebles reiterated his desire to have new athletic facilities built on the Jericho campus in Landover within the next two or three years, which will help attract players. In that time, Williams said, he plans to actively recruit the area, starting with visiting summer leagues and AAU tournaments. "That will give us time to build the program, to bring in kids when they're young," said Williams, who went 14-29 in two seasons at High Point. "I'm not out to steal anyone's kids. . . . It's different. I'm used to being recruited from, and now I'm the one doing the recruiting." . . .

Two Loudoun County football coaching vacancies were filled Tuesday night when the school board approved the hiring of Mike Burnett at Broad Run and Scott Woodlief at Potomac Falls .

Burnett, who coached at Santa Monica High in California last fall, will take over for Ken Belchik, who retired at the end of his eighth season with the Spartans (1-9 in 2005). Woodlief comes from the Apprentice School in Newport News, Va., and replaces four-year coach Casey Childs. Potomac Falls was 4-6 last year. . . .

West Springfield junior quarterback Peter Lalich has unofficially committed to Virginia, Spartans Coach Bill Renner said. The 6-foot-4, 222-pound Lalich led the area in passing yards last fall with 2,671 and he threw 22 touchdowns. . . .

Magruder guard Corinne Owens has signed a letter-of-intent to play basketball for Sacred Heart. She averaged 18.6 points per game this past season for the Colonels.
