MARYLAND
GXS of Gaithersburg, which provides business-to-business e-commerce services, and Microsoft plan to announce today a new alliance to integrate their software for use in global supply chains. GXS will use Microsoft technology in its GXS Trading Grid, and Microsoft will recommend the e-commerce system for use with its BizTalk Server.
The Tech Council of Maryland said it will produce Mid-Atlantic CIO & CTO Awards to honor chief information officers and chief technology officers of the region's advanced technology companies. The first award ceremony is scheduled for February, the organization said.
Media Cybernetics of Silver Spring, which provides image analysis software, acquired AutoQuant Imaging of Troy, N.Y., which provides image analysis products for use in life sciences. Terms were not disclosed.
Access Intelligence of Rockville, which produces trade publications including Defense Daily, has acquired Energy Daily, Defense Today, and Space & Missile Report from King Publishing Group of the District. Terms were not disclosed.
VIRGINIA
Security One Bank , which is aimed at the Hispanic market, is set to open today in the Baileys Crossroads area. President and chief executive Carl Dodson, a veteran local banker, said everyone who will work with customers at the bank is bilingual -- except Dodson. He said he has been too busy for his Spanish lessons lately but will resume immersion classes soon. "It's a lot of work getting a bank open," he said.
Virginia Business Opportunity Fair , an annual event that links government contractors and corporations with minority businesses, began yesterday and continues through Tuesday at the Westfields Marriott Washington Dulles hotel in Chantilly.
