'Beauty,' 'Paquita' And 'Swan Song' in Ballet


The Fairfax Ballet will perform an original story ballet, "Beauty & the Beast," and excerpts from "Paquita," "Swan Song" and "Itsuka Mata" on Saturday and Sunday at Oakton High School.

The Fairfax Ballet is the resident company of the Russell School of Ballet in Chantilly.

Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Saturday and 4 p.m. Sunday.

'Masked Marvels' And Tales in McLean


Michael Cooper will perform his one-man show, "Masked Marvels & Wondertales" at 3 p.m. Sunday at the McLean Community Center's Alden Theatre.

Cooper is a visual artist and mime whose performances combine the mythical and the autobiographical.

The show features Cooper's handcrafted masks, original stories of courage and wonder, stilt dancing and a physical repertoire.

Gilbert and Sullivan, By Voce Chamber Singers


The Voce Chamber Singers will perform a "Let's Laugh!" concert at 8 p.m. Saturday at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Fairfax.

Advance admission is $18 for adults, $13 for seniors and $5 for students. Add $2 for admission at the door.

The group plans to perform Gilbert and Sullivan's "Trial by Jury" and Peter Schickele's "Liebeslieder Polkas."

Modern-Day Impressionist To Show Works at Hospital


Local artist and Vienna Arts Society member Frances M. Rathjen will exhibit her work at Inova Fairfax Hospital the month of June as part of the Art in the Atrium program.

Rathjen, who paints in the impressionist style using oils and acrylics, has 25 works in the show she calls "In and Around the Capital Area."

The hospital is at 3300 Gallows Rd., Falls Church.
