Claudio Reyna , the U.S. national soccer team captain who left Tuesday's friendly against Morocco with a hamstring injury, does not have any muscular damage and should be at full strength for the start of the World Cup next month, team officials said yesterday.

Reyna underwent an MRI exam in Nashville to determine the severity of the injury, which forced him to the sideline in the first half of the 1-0 loss.

"I am relieved that there is no serious damage," Reyna said in a statement released by the U.S. Soccer Federation. "I'll be working with the trainers on a daily basis and will be focused on getting back on the field as quickly as possible."

Even before the injury, Reyna was not expected to play tomorrow night against Venezuela in Cleveland, but now it is also unlikely he will play in the U.S. team's final World Cup tuneup, Sunday against Latvia in East Hartford, Conn.

Reyna, 32, missed the 1994 World Cup with a hamstring injury and sat out the 2002 opener with a strained quadriceps. He missed significant playing time this past English league season after suffering ankle and shoulder injuries.
