Some of the world's top female sailors are in Annapolis this week for the 16th Boat U.S. Santa Maria Cup. Ten skippers and crew from five countries are vying for the trophy through tomorrow. Race headquarters is Eastport Yacht Club.
Among the notable sailors is last year's women's keelboat world champion, Sally Barkow of Wisconsin, who has switched roles with her regular crewmate, Debbie Capozzi of New York. Capozzi is driving and Barkow is crewing.
Other skippers include 2004 Olympian Carol Cronin of Rhode Island, Australian Katie Spithill and local entry Jo Ann Fisher of Arnold. After the first day of racing Wednesday, Americans held the top three spots, with Liz Baylis first, Katy Lovell second and Cronin third.
