Ex-Police Chief Takes New Job
Former U.S. Capitol Police Chief Terrance W. Gainer has become the director of emergency preparedness for the Nonprofit Roundtable of Greater Washington, an organization of more than 130 members that works to build the influence and visibility of nonprofit groups in the Washington area.
Gainer is working part time at the nonprofit group while consulting other organizations on security-related matters.
He will chair a roundtable committee on long-term community recovery from disasters.
Chuck Bean, executive director of the nonprofit roundtable, said he "couldn't be happier" about snagging the chief, who said he had several other job offers.

Potomac at Risk for Algae Bloom
The Chesapeake Bay could have fewer low-oxygen zones this summer, but there's a high likelihood of a dangerous algae bloom in the Potomac River, according to a water quality forecast released yesterday by the Chesapeake Bay Program.
The program, a federal-state partnership charged with improving bay health, reported a mixed forecast for water quality this summer.
