The same sense of community is evident at Bethesda's Edgemoor building, whose residents just made an inaugural donation -- $1,410 -- to our campaign. Said Marian Newman , who chairs Edgemoor's social committee: "I feel we're all so fortunate that when we have a social event it's just a great time to give to those in our society who are really suffering."
It costs $710 to send one child to Moss Hollow for a week, but I'll gladly accept any amount, no matter how modest. As Marian said: "If everyone just donated a little bit, we'd have a lot of happy children this summer."
Here are the ways you can make a tax-deductible donation:
Make a check or money order payable to "Send a Kid to Camp" and mail it to:
P.O. Box 96237, Washington, D.C. 20090-6237.
To contribute online , go here . To donate by MasterCard or Visa by phone , call 202-334-5100 and follow the instructions on our taped message.
Please don't send U.S. cash. The only cash we can accept is foreign bills and coins, the sort of thing you might have dumped in your sock drawer after a trip abroad. We can convert that to U.S. funds. Pack it carefully and mail it to me: John Kelly, The Washington Post, 1150 15th St. NW, Washington, D.C. 20071.
Finally, if you're feeling a bit peckish, every Wednesday during our campaign, McCormick & Schmick's and M & S Grill restaurants will donate the proceeds from one lunch menu item to Send a Kid to Camp. Look for details Wednesday.
