CARSON, Calif. -- Cobi Jones scored in the 88th minute to give the Los Angeles Galaxy a 1-1 tie with D.C. United on Sunday night.
The Galaxy (2-9-2) broke a club-record losing streak of seven games in its second contest under new head coach Frank Yallop, who replaced Steve Sampson on Wednesday.
United (7-1-4) extended its unbeaten streak to six games and widened its lead in the Eastern Conference to eight points over Kansas City.
Paulo Nagamura began the scoring play with a pass that United's Domenic Mediate deflected. Jones headed the ball downward as goalkeeper Troy Perkins approached, and Jones scored from eight yards into an empty net.
Jones, who entered the game in the 67th minute, was playing for the first time since May 20. He missed the previous three games because of a sprained right foot.
Christian Gomez gave United a 1-0 lead in the 21st minute. Gomez volleyed Facundo Erpen's pass, pivoted around defender Ugo Ihemelu and lofted a 25-yard shot over goalkeeper Kevin Hartman's right shoulder.
