Washington Wives Were Goin' Out of Their Heads Over Faux Four Seasons

Tuesday, June 13, 2006; Page C03

If the cast of Broadway's "Jersey Boys" had notions of celebrating hard after their big wins at Sunday's Tony Awards -- not a chance. They had a big date to keep with the Senate wives.

Oh, technically it was the Senate Spouses Club -- guys were invited, really! -- but it was clearly a chick thing as the four supple-voiced cuties who portray the Four Seasons in the jukebox musical serenaded Laura Bush's luncheon guests at the White House yesterday. The spouses of Senate and Cabinet members swayed and sang along to boomer classics such as "Big Girls Don't Cry," "Rag Doll" and "Can't Take My Eyes Off You." For one romantic song, cast member J. Robert Spencer asked to dim the East Room chandeliers "to set the mood." No go, but People magazine's Sandra Sobieraj spotted one wife jumping up on the press riser several times to get photos of the boys with her own happy-snap camera. Swoon!

The first lady caught the show in New York before her U.N. speech on AIDS a few weeks ago. Sunday night, after "Jersey Boys" won best musical, the whole cast bused down to D.C: Spencer, John Lloyd Young (best actor in a musical for his portrayal of Frankie Valli ), Christian Hoff (upset winner for best featured actor) and Daniel Reichard .

Mrs. Bush hosted the luncheon to thank the group for a dress auction that raised funds for her library charity. The meal of grilled tuna, vichyssoise and white chocolate almond terrine was served on historic White House china going all the way back to the FDR years. Yeah -- totally a chick event!

Start Spreading the News: Bush Twin Decides She'll Take Manhattan

Sorry, Washington: We're back to being a one-twin town. Barbara Bush -- the dark-haired, older-by-minutes one -- has pulled up stakes for Manhattan, sources confirmed yesterday. What the First Daughter has planned for NYC remains unknown; the White House maintains a firm policy of not commenting about the twins' personal lives. But then, it was never clear what exactly she had been up to the past several months in D.C. After graduating from Yale in '04, Barbara campaigned for her dad's reelection, then vanished from the scene to volunteer quietly at a South African hospital last summer.

She resurfaced at Thanksgiving, around the time of her 24th birthday. While sister Jenna was tied down to her D.C. charter-school teaching job, Barbara got to accompany her mother to the Winter Olympics in Turin and the inauguration of Liberia's female president. When she was spotted last month on a multi-hour date with a cute guy at Alexandria's Indigo Landing, we all hoped that perhaps she had found reason to stick around town -- alas, apparently not.

HEY, ISN'T THAT . . . ?

· Magic Johnson hanging out on the Georgetown waterfront Saturday. The basketball legend, in town to tout his new food service company, dropped by Cabanas restaurant with a tattooed older man and a buff younger woman for enchiladas (but no guacamole or sour cream.) The restaurant comped the $70 tab; Johnson left a $20 tip.

· Lance Armstrong keynoting Saturday's commencement at the Bullis School in Potomac. The Tour de France champ, who rode for the Discovery Channel cycling team, was invited to the private academy by Discovery CEO Judith McHale (son Mark O'Halleran is a graduating senior). Armstrong, in black blazer and bluejeans, gave the Class of 2006 yellow "Live Strong" bracelets and later donned a varsity jacket signed by all 80 seniors.

· Parents: Another celebrity baby, but actor Matt Damon and his wife, Luciana, managed to reproduce without leaving the country or buying their own sonogram machine -- so what are the chances of a bidding war for the first baby picture? Daughter Isabella arrived Sunday night in Miami.

· Lovebirds : Despite those nasty tabloid rumors, the marriage of Britney Spears and Kevin Federline is "awesome," the pregnant pop princess tells NBC. And you'll be shocked to hear she thinks the paparazzi have "crossed the line" by snapping her private moments, such as driving with her infant son on her lap: "You have to realize that we're people and that we . . . just need privacy and we need our respect."
