Last week's profile of D.C. Council member Jack Evans got plenty of responses from women who think the single dad with three kids could be Mr. Right. Some tracked Evans down at the council, some at his law firm, and a couple asked us to forward their e-mails. They liked his menagerie ("I don't know much about hamsters but I can picture you chasing them with your kids laughing in the background"), his athleticism ("What caught my eye was the roller skating!"), his personality ("I just always thought you were a really nice guy") and his public service ("A lifelong Washingtonian, there is not better place in my mind to raise your family and contribute to the city's progress forward").

All those lovely women, but what caught his eye was a real dog. Her e-mail began: "Dear Kayla , You may not remember me, but I'm your sister. We were separated at about eight weeks when we both left the farmette in Upper Marlboro . . ."

Kayla is Evans's 11-year-old golden retriever, and the e-mail was "written" by her long-lost litter-mate Sophie. If this were a romance novel, Sophie would belong to a lovely female owner with a weakness for blond overscheduled politicians. Alas, she lives with Bridget Bohacz and Robert Berlow of Crownsville, but there will be a canine reunion for the two families.

Said Evans: "My kids want to take our dog to meet her sister."

Readers Tell Us

The homies from Waldorf -- home town of Good Charlotte lead singer Joel Madden -- took exception to teen queen Hilary Duff's description of her boyfriend's birthplace as "a pretty ghetto place in Maryland."

La Plata HS, '97 writes: I graduated from high school with Benji and Joel Madden of Good Charlotte and they are NOT from Waldorf, despite their claim. They grew up in Charlotte Hall, which is actually "the sticks," not "the ghetto" . . . Ha! Those guys are the biggest posers.

A local REALTOR? writes: This is just the boost the Waldorf housing market needs. Two questions: Will the Charles County Chamber of Commerce use this celebrity endorsement in their promotional material? Are we going to get a free Good Charlotte concert out of this?
