Foam party. Tequila Beach "reunion." We're feeling kinda queasy just thinking about this 18-and-over throwdown at Fur. Maybe you're not. Say hi to the Hot 99.5 DJs for us, okay?
Monday, July 3
Tuesday's holiday means that bars and clubs are falling all over themselves to encourage patrons to come out on Monday night. After all, what's one more drink when you can sleep late on Tuesday? Let's start this list with the annual Midtown Liberty Bar Crawl, which offers food and drink specials at nine downtown bars between 5 p.m. and midnight. (Mmmm. $2 Budweiser.) Start at Mackey's, then wander to any of the other participating locations, including the Front Page, Porter's or Sign of the Whale. You'll save a couple of bucks on the cover when you bring two cans of food for local charity Bread for the City.
Next up is HiBall Events' predictably crowded Independence Eve Bash at the Clarendon Ballroom. Cover bands JunkFood and Alan Has Radar are performing, DJ Pat Premier is spinning, and you gotta get there right after work if you want any chance of hanging out on that huge rooftop deck without standing in line for 45 minutes. (Doors open at 7, and drink specials run until 8.)
Here's why we love holiday weekends: Not only is H2O opening its doors for a Monday night party (which never happens), it's letting in patrons between the ages of 18 and 21 (which never happens). Oh, and because it's a Roc-A-Fella party, Memphis Bleek, Freeway and the Young Gunz are all performing live. Doors open at 9.
Also taking advantage of the mid-week holiday is Taint, DC9's gay indie-electro dance party. "Indie Day Taint" features special guest Will Eastman, the founder of the popular Bliss night at the Black Cat. Doors open at 9, and the line is down the block by 11.
When party people at home for the holidays need to get out of the house after Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner before they either pass out or start arguing with relatives, Soul Baby has been there. You can get a summer version of this perennial classic tonight at Eyebar. DJ Dirty Hands takes a break from flying airplanes and running Fly to get back to the pilot seat behind the turntables with the standard Soul Baby recipe of hip-hop, reggae and retro hits.
Tuesday, July 4
An alternative July 4 soiree for those who wish they were at the beach, the Party on the Potomac returns to Cantina Marina's dockside patio for an open-bar bash with live music by Jimi Smooth and the Hit Time Band -- favorites of the Starboard faithful -- and the Ken Edwards Band. Cantina Marina's deck provides a great view of the fireworks over the Washington Monument. Polo shirts and sundresses aren't required, but seem to be the dress code of choice. Tickets are $70 for women and $85 for men, and include all drinks. No tickets will be sold at the door, so visit www.capitolentertainmentgroup.com before Independence Day.
As good Americans, we're filled with righteous indignation that one of the area's prime rooftop decks is being taken over by Europeans -- Europeans! -- on Independence Day. (Well, we do kinda have to thank the French Navy for that whole Yorktown thing. Otherwise, July 4 might just be the day between July 3 and July 5.) Euronet International, a networking and social group for professionals from across the pond, has secured the roof at the Embassy Row Hilton for its Independence Party, which includes DJs Jav D (XM) and Dan Sampson (Glow), a cash bar and cooks working the grill. Doors open at 3, so you might as well spend the whole day lazing in the sun. Tickets are $15 from euronetinternational.com, and admission is limited to 250 people, so move fast.
