No first-round picks in last night's NBA draft had local ties, but Cincinnati swingman James White and George Washington guard Danilo Pinnock both heard their names called in the second round. White, a native of Kensington, averaged 16.3 points last season and was projected on several draft boards to go in the first round. Instead, he lasted until the Portland Trail Blazers chose him with the first pick of the second round -- No. 31. Portland later traded White to Indiana for Florida State center Alexander Johnson and two future second-round picks.

Pinnock, the Colonials' leading scorer last season at 14.5 points per game, went 58th to the Dallas Mavericks, who then traded him to the Los Angeles Lakers for the Lakers second-round pick next year. Pinnock greatly helped his draft status with a stellar showing at the pre-draft camp in Orlando. He wasn't even mentioned in the NBA draft media guide.
