The U.S. military has announced the deaths of a Marine and three soldiers from fighting in recent days in Iraq. The names of all four were withheld pending notification of their families.

The Marine was wounded Wednesday, during fighting in Anbar province. Military officials announced his death in a statement e-mailed to news outlets this morning. The statement said the Marine was assigned to Regimental Combat Team 5.

A separate statement said a soldier from the 172nd Stryker Brigade combat team died Thursday from small-arms fire in Mosul.

Another soldier was killed in a bomb explosion Thursday on a foot patrol south of Baghdad.

The fourth fatality was a soldier with the 1/34 Brigade Combat Team who died after his vehicle hit an improvised explosive device near Balad. Another soldier was injured in that attack.

More than 2,500 U.S. military personnel have been killed in Iraq since the March 2003 invasion.
