The Miami Heat picked up reserve guard Jason Kapono 's $1.1 million contract for next season, one day before he would have become a free agent. . . .

The Utah Jazz exercised the option on point guard Keith McLeod for the 2006-07 season, keeping him from becoming an unrestricted free agent.

Hockey

The Washington Capitals bought out the final year of defenseman Nolan Yonkman 's contract. Yonkman, who appeared in 38 games last season, was due to earn $450,000 next season.
