Monday, July 3, 2006; E02

Bobby Cremins is returning to college basketball as coach of the College of Charleston. He has not coached since retiring from Georgia Tech six years ago.

"I just really missed the game and I'm thrilled to get a second chance here," Cremins said yesterday.

Cremins, who said he agreed to a six-year contract, met with the school's search committee on Friday. He will be formally introduced as the Cougars' coach today.

Cremins spent 19 seasons with the Yellow Jackets, winning three ACC titles and reaching the Final Four in 1990. He takes over for Tom Herrion , who last month was bought out of his contract for $787,000.

Cremins accepted a coaching job at his alma mater, South Carolina, in 1993 and then returning to the Yellow Jackets three days later.
