Richard Perle [Outlook, June 25] offered the usual disingenuous rhetoric in his article, "Why Did Bush Blink on Iran? (Ask Condi)."

I served my country proudly for six years of active duty with the Air Force and 20 years with the Reserve. What branch of service did Perle serve in? Oh, that's right -- he didn't serve, as is the case with most of the "tough guys" in the Iraq working group. Perle says that the United States must support Iranian democrats, but he doesn't make a convincing argument as to why. Perle dares to say that it's not too late for the United States to redeem our honor by taking a tough stance with Iran.

I would suggest to Perle that he and his fellow chicken hawks have already dishonored the United States in the eyes of the world as a result of our policy on torture and our inept handling of Iraq, just to name a few blotches.
