A Tai Shan Shindig for the Birthday Boy

Saturday, July 8, 2006

A year ago, Washingtonians had a love child. After the initial freakout over his projectile delivery, we settled into adoring the little guy . . . and stalking him via pandacam. Tomorrow, Tai Shan is 1. And although we're just in tears over his becoming increasingly less snugglable, we will celebrate his birthday like it's the Fourth of July all over again. The National Zoo hosts Tai Shan's first birthday bash , 10 a.m.-2 p.m. tomorrow at the panda habitat, with talks by zookeepers, plus and arts and crafts (including a card station where kids are invited to create birthday wishes), treats, giveaways for kids and screenings of Animal Planet's "A Panda Is Born." There will also be performances of traditional Chinese dance and music, and the first 1,000 party guests get a free cupcake. Free. 3001 Connecticut Ave. NW. 202-633-4800.
