Civil Service, Military Raises Moved Along Separate Tracks
The transportation-Treasury bill approved by the Senate committee contained some good news for the Office of Personnel Management.
The bill would provide $26.7 million for the agency's initiative to replace a paper-based system for processing federal retirement claims with an automated system that would more quickly calculate accurate pension benefits.
The House had not included any funding for the project, which Linda M. Springer , the OPM director, has called essential to modernizing agency operations.
A decision on whether to finance the new technology will probably be left to House and Senate negotiators later this year.
