What is a musician to do if his hearing, the very thing that drives his art, is stripped from him with little warning or reason? That happened to Jay Alan Zimmerman, and he is not yet sure just what he will do.

That is the thrust of "Jay Alan Zimmerman's Incredibly Deaf Musical," playing tonight as part of the Capital Fringe Festival. In it, Zimmerman uses humor to explore his new circumstances and his efforts to reinvent himself in the face of deafness -- with the theme being that his whole identity now is a work in progress.

The musical/stand-up/multimedia presentation/dance-off production is a new work by the Northern Virginia-based composer, who uses the notes he can hear on his piano and imagines the others to fill in the blanks. $15. 5-6:30 p.m. Canadian Embassy Theatre, 501 Pennsylvania Ave. NW.
