Tammy Haddad, executive producer of MSNBC's "Hardball With Chris Matthews," is being promoted to vice president of the cable network's Washington bureau.

Haddad will oversee the network's political and election coverage from the bureau, where about 20 staff members work. "NBC has a big commitment to politics, and the elections are so important this time around," Haddad said yesterday. "So, they'd like me to lead the coverage on that and make sure we're on top of all the issues."

Haddad, who will continue overseeing "Hardball," brought "Larry King Live" to CNN in 1985 and has made stops at NBC's "Today," CBS's "The Late Late Show With Tom Snyder" and Fox News Channel.

Yesterday's announcement comes a day after ABC named former "CBS Evening News" executive producer Jim Murphy as top producer for "Good Morning America," a position for which Haddad was in the running.
