A Grand Adventure

Are there any travel packages that include the 2007 Wimbledon matches in England and the British Open in Scotland?

Steve Schatken, Shepherdstown, W.Va.

Wimbledon is June 25 to July 8 next year in London, and the final rounds of the British Open are July 19 to 22 at the Carnoustie Championship Course in Angus, Scotland. Because of those pesky 10 days in between the two, outlets don't operate all-in-one tours.

If you have the time, you could book separate package deals for each event, then travel on your own during the interim. Most tour companies haven't announced their 2007 packages, but check this fall with Premiere Sports Travel (800-924-9993, http://www.sportstravel.com/ ) or Roadtrips (800-465-1765, http://www.roadtrips.com/ ), two reputable agencies.

To save money, you might book a package deal for Wimbledon only and make your own arrangements for the British Open. The tennis tickets are hard to come by without the help of a ticket agent, but British Open tickets are widely available and can even be purchased at the gate for as little as $10 for the practice rounds.

For the days in between events, why not continue on the sporting theme and take in cricket matches and horse races or golf on your own at clubs throughout Scotland? Check with Visit Britain (800-462-2748, http://www.visitbritain.com/ ) for schedules and details.
