WASHINGTON -- The Washington Capitals will hold training camp this year in Ashburn, Va., a temporary move while the team's new training facility in Arlington is being completed.
Camp will open at the Ashburn Ice House on Sept. 15, with players reporting for physicals the day before. All practices are open to the public.
The camp will move to Hershey, Pa., home of the Capitals' AHL affiliate Hershey Bears, Sept. 24-26. The Capitals will play the New Jersey Devils in a preseason game in Hershey on Sept. 24 and travel to Philadelphia for a game Sept. 26.
Camp will then return to Ashburn, with the final practice Sept. 30. The regular season begins Oct. 5 against the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden.
In October, the Capitals plan to move into their new $42 million training facility, being constructed atop a parking garage at the Ballston Common Mall in Arlington.
The Capitals moved out of their old facility in Odenton, Md., during the summer.
