Unity of Fairfax continues to host classes in Buddhist philosophy and meditation from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Mondays. The $10 classes are run by the D.C.-based Vajrayogini Buddhist Center. The church is at 2854 Hunter Mill Rd., Oakton. For information, call 202-331-2122.

Annandale United Methodist Church has scheduled an open house from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 10. A barbecue lunch will be served after a worship service, and the church will provide a moon bounce for children.

Unity Life Center is promoting a week-long series of activities inspired by the book "The Way of Peace," by Deepak Chopra. Floris United Methodist Church will sponsor classes in English as a second language at 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, Sept. 12 through Nov. 21, at Hutchison Elementary School in Herndon. Northern Virginia Hebrew Congregation will host Israeli author Eva Etzioni-Halevy from 12:15 to 1:45 p.m. on four Wednesdays beginning Sept. 13. Etzioni-Halevy will read from her novel "The Song of Hannah" and analyze the work with texts about Hannah from the Torah, Talmud and the major collection of rabbinic midrash. The fee is $40 for congregation members and $50 for others.
