MASS FOR PEACE

Donald W. Wuerl, archbishop of Washington, will celebrate a Mass for Peace. The time of the Mass coincides with the times the planes involved in the attacks took off from Boston, Newark and Dulles airports -- departures were 7:58 to 8:10 a.m.

INTERFAITH BUILDING DAY

When: 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Where: Greencastle Road and Wexhall Drive
Burtonsville

Representatives from area Christian, Muslim and Jewish congregations will join Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County to build homes for low-income families on property in Burtonsville.

2006 ANNAPOLIS FREEDOM WALK

When: 8:30 to 10:30 a.m.

Where: Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium on Rowe Boulevard in Annapolis. Participants should enter the stadium via Taylor Avenue.

Walk and ceremony at the Maryland Fallen Firefighters Memorial on Rowe Boulevard between Calvert and Bladen streets. Maryland Gov. Robert L. Ehrlich Jr. and Annapolis Mayor Ellen Moyer will speak.

MEMORIAL DEDICATION CEREMONY

When: 10 a.m.

Where: Bladensburg Waterfront Park
4601 Annapolis Rd.Bladensburg

Prince George's County Executive Jack B. Johnson will dedicate the 9/11 Memorial Park at the Bladensburg Waterfront Park in commemoration of the county residents who died in the terrorist attacks.

"A DAY TO REMEMBER"

Where: Grounds of the Freeman House

Community commemoration sponsored by Vienna's American Legion and the town of Vienna.

DAY OF PEACE, RECONCILIATION AND REMEMBRANCEWhen: 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Where: Steps of the Lincoln Memorial

Speeches by Arun Gandhi, grandson of Mahatma Gandhi, families of victims and others. Prayers for peace by representatives of major faiths.

INTERFAITH PRAYER COMMEMORATION

Arab Americans commemorate the fifth anniversary with an interfaith prayer luncheon and address by the president of the Arab American Institute.

ALL-AMERICA MEMORIAL CONCERT

Free memorial concert featuring the Brass Quartet.

MEMORIAL MASS

When: 12:10 p.m.

Where: Crypt Church, Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception

Catholic University will honor those who died in the attacks, including university alumni, relatives and a faculty member. A homily will be given by the Rev. David M. O'Connell, university president. A steel cross crafted by a New York City firefighter from debris at the World Trade Center site will be included in the offertory presentation.

GEORGETOWN UNIVERSITY MEMORIAL SERVICE

When: 5 p.m.

Where: Healy Lawn at Georgetown University
37th and O streets NW

Service includes a reading of the names of members of the Georgetown University community who died in the attacks.

GARDEN OF HOPE CEREMONY

When: 5:30 p.m.

Where: Garden of Hope at Centennial Park
Off Route 108, Ellicott City

Brief processional and a wreath-laying at the garden's stone monument, which was dedicated four years ago.

PATRIOT DAY CEREMONY

When: 7 p.m.

Where: Veterans Amphitheater, next to City Hall
10455 Armstrong Street, Fairfax

Candlelight ceremony and music provided by the City of Fairfax Band to remember victims and to honor local public safety providers and members of the military who have served or are serving in Afghanistan and Iraq. Families of these honorees are invited and will receive special recognition.

PURCELLVILLE REMEMBRANCEWhen: 7 p.m.Where: Purcellville Town Hall

Ceremony with guest speaker U.S. Rep. Frank R. Wolf.

REMEMBRANCE CEREMONY

Where: Inspiration Park, at Inspiration and Firehouse lanes in the Kentlands in Gaithersburg

The ceremony includes readings from high school students and a lighting of candles.

LEESBURG MEMORIAL SERVICE

When: 7 p.m.

Where: Town Green

Remarks by Leesburg's mayor and police chief. In addition to the ceremony, the town's Freedom Memorial at Freedom Park, 101 Granada Cir., will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.

PATRIOTIC SINGALONG

When: 7 to 8 p.m.

Where: City Dock in Annapolis

Singalong celebration of the United States.
