Whitney Houston is divorcing Bobby Brown , her publicist said yesterday. We're shocked -- not that they're splitting, but that they stayed together so long. A quick spin of their greatest hits:
1992: The couple marry at her New Jersey home; the 800 guests start a divorce betting pool.
1993: Daughter Bobbi Kristina is born.
1996: He crashes her black Porsche in Hollywood, Fla.
1997: They separate and reunite.
2000: They get caught by airport security with marijuana in their baggage; she is fired from singing at the Oscars; he serves 26 days in jail for an old DWI conviction.
2002: She admits to using drugs but says she's too rich to do crack cocaine, telling Diane Sawyer, "crack is whack."
2003: The couple fly to Israel for a spiritual retreat with the Black Hebrew sect; later, he's charged with hitting Whitney, who sings "(You Make Me Feel Like a) Natural Woman" when he turns himself in.
2004: She makes her first trip to drug rehab; the couple try marriage counseling.
2005: The Bravo reality show "Being Bobby Brown" includes her second stint in rehab and his bipolar disorder.
2006: He denies divorce rumors; she files for divorce.
Man-About-Town Foxx Shoots Film, Hoops
![]() |
| Before leaving town, actor Jamie Foxx played a little ball at George Washington University. |
Turns out he had business here, too. With co-star Jennifer Garner , Foxx, 39, shot scenes for the terrorism thriller "The Kingdom" at the Willard Hotel and the Justice Department on Saturday and Sunday-- barely noticed, it seems, in a downtown that gets precious little traffic on weekends.
Garner, dressed all fedlike in black slacks and ID badge, posed for pics with tourists on the Mall; we're told she did not bring baby Violet or husband Ben Affleck to town. The director is Peter Berg , the sometime-actor who also appeared in Snyder's box Monday. The whole crew shoved off yesterday morning to film overseas, reportedly in Dubai.
But before leaving, Foxx made one more surprise cameo: on the basketball courts at George Washington University. Jake Sherman , a sports editor for the Hatchet , reports that the star -- suited up in GW gear and toting a Louis Vuitton messenger bag -- played pickup Tuesday with some students and an actor pal. In a story for today's edition of the student paper, Sherman describes a lively game: Foxx taking some "ill-advised shots" and yelling at his teammates for poor defense. He did nail three baskets, though, joking, "They're going to retire my number after this one."
Can She Kickbox Her Way to the Top?
Forget about the cooked-up racial controversy on "Survivor" this season: The real reason to tune in tonight is to see one of our own -- a kickboxing, do-gooding, hot-yoga-loving young D.C. lawyer!
Becky Lee , 29, of Glover Park, is on the Asian American "tribe" that competes against white, black and Latino teams. She was polite on the phone, but the CBS suits won't let her talk until she's voted off the island or wins the $1 million, whatever the case may be. Her former boss at the Battered Women's Justice Project, Kimberly Tolhurst, said, "I could rely on her to do anything. She could do a legal presentation or run around in high heels." Friend Reese Gardner attests to her scrappiness, playing flag football with the boys on the Mall. But can she scheme her way to victory? "Some people think attorneys are conniving," he said. "I don't know if I see Becky as the typical attorney."
UPDATE
· The death of Daniel Smith, 20-year-old son of Anna Nicole Smith , has been ruled "suspicious" by the Bahamas coroner's office and a formal inquest is scheduled for Oct. 23. Smith was found dead sitting in a chair in his mother's Nassau hospital room Sunday morning; the coroner said she knows the cause of death but needs to confirm it with a toxicology report. She also confirmed a third person was in the room when Smith died, but would not reveal the identity.
