SCHOOL DEAL
Teachers From China Sought
D.C. school officials signed an agreement this week with education officials in China to hire several teachers to instruct students in the Chinese language and culture.
Sally Schwartz, the school system's director of international programs, said officials plan to offer Chinese at six schools: Eaton Elementary, Deal Junior High and Wilson Senior High in Northwest Washington and Burrville Elementary, Kelly Miller Middle School and Woodson Senior High in Northeast.
The system is seeking teachers from China because it has been unable to find qualified instructors through other channels.
"The demand and interest in Chinese is growing in the United States," Schwartz said.

METRO ATTACK
Youths Fire Shot in Bus
A group of youths attacked a Metro bus in Northeast Washington yesterday afternoon, breaking a window and firing one shot inside, authorities said. There were no injuries among the 35 passengers, and no one had been arrested in the incident late last night.
Shortly after 4:30 p.m., the B8 bus to Fort Lincoln picked up a group of teenagers at the Rhode Island Avenue-Brentwood Metro station. It then stopped at Montana Avenue NE, where a second group of youths walked up and started pounding on the bus, Metro spokesman Steven Taubenkibel said.
Someone then threw a rock at the bus, and one youth reached inside and fired a shot, Taubenkibel said. Police responded but were unable to catch the culprits.
