IMPROVE POORLY DRAINED GARDEN BEDS BY LIFTING PERENNIALS, ground

covers and small shrubs. Use a garden fork to dig in enough compost, leaf mold and other organic matter to raise the level of the bed by nine to 12 inches. Use the opportunity to divide the perennials and add fresh plantings to the mix.
