A flower that takes four syllables to pronounce should have more than one form, and indeed it does. In the hands of pros and hobbyists, the familiar garden chrysanthemum blossoms into flowers of dramatically variable size, color and more than a dozen recognized forms.

This weekend, the National Chrysanthemum Society's annual show comes to the Washington area. Growers from across the United States will display prized exhibits.

Saturday, 1 to 5 p.m., and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Hyatt Dulles Hotel, 2300 Dulles Corner Blvd., Herndon. Free. Call Jim Dunne at 703-560-8776 or visit http://www.odcsmums.org/ .
