4 strips crisp bacon, cut in half

For the waffles:

1 cup flour

1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder

1/4 teaspoon baking soda

Pinch of salt

1 tablespoon Madras curry powder

1 cup low-fat buttermilk

1/4 cup low-sodium chicken stock

1 large egg, lightly beaten

3 tablespoons golden raisins, chopped, or whole currants

2 tablespoons chopped walnuts or pecans
