Prince William County's sole winery, the 15-acre Winery at La Grange , opened last month near Haymarket, but its request to the county for a special permit to have events at its site has been put on hold.
At an Oct. 18 public hearing, county commissioners delayed their decision on granting the permit until Nov. 1, according to county records. At that date, county leaders will hear arguments from the winery owners, who say the winery needs the special permit to stay in business. "The permit is important because it will raise education about our farm product, the wine, and will promote our business," La Grange managing partner Chris Pearmund said.
The winery was opened by Pearmund, owner of the Broad Run winery Pearmund Cellars in Fauquier County, along with other investors. The new winery includes the historic three-story La Grange manor house on Antioch Road.
Park Center Construction Nears
Construction on the city of Manassas Park 's long-planned downtown development is scheduled to begin early next year, with the first buildings expected to be completed in 2008. Park Center , a mix of residential, retail and commercial development, will be at Park Center Court and Manassas Drive.
The center, developed by Clark Realty Capital of Bethesda, will have up to 100,000 square feet of retail space, including two restaurants, first-floor shops and a shopping center. The plan also calls for 414 residential units, all within walking distance of the Manassas Park VRE rail station.
